2024 Stewardship Council Community Grant Awards
In 2024, the Stewardship Council awarded $51,445 in grant funding through its Community Grants Program. The following projects received funding:
People of Ayer Concerned About the Environment (PACE) - $6,445 for “AYER Community PULL! Campaign to Remove Water Chestnuts at Grove Pond.” This grant will support a third season of invasive water chestnut pulls on Grove Pond.
Harvard/Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee - $7,500 for "Targeted Spot Removal of Invasive Aquatic Plants" This project is focused on hiring trained divers to remove aquatic invasives in public swimming areas.
Harvard/Fivesparks - $5,875 for "Destination: Nature 2024" This project will solicit artwork and create a juried art show focused on the them of Wild and Scenic rivers and riparian landscapes in the Nashua River watershed.
Harvard/Conservation Commission - $6,226 for "Harvard Invasive Plant Project (HIPP)". This grant will fund training and workshops on invasives removal on private property primarily along waterways.
Lancaster/OneLancaster - $3,250 for "Connecting the Community of Lancaster to the Nashua River". This project focuses on raising community awareness of the ecology of the Nashua River through outreach, community walks and talks, and a cleanup project.
Pepperell/Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee - $2,900 for "Pepperell Invasive Plant Management Projects Support". This grant supports on-going invasive plant removal from disturbed areas along a public way.
Shirley/Conservation Commission and Shirley Greenway Committee - $1,810 for "Riparian Land Stewardship Outreach Project." This project will conduct outreach to private landowners on riparian lands to provide information on best practices for land stewardship.
Shirley/Select Board - $4,000 for "Fredonian Park Riparian Restoration Project, Phase III". This grant funds the third year of invasive plant removal and restoration of riparian areas in Fredonian Park on Catacunemaug Brook.
Townsend/Squannacook Greenways - $4,789 for "Riverbank fencing and signage along the Squannacook River Rail Trail". This project involves construction of wooden fencing adjacent to the Squannacook River Rail Trail to protect riparian areas along the Squannacook River.
Lancaster/World Farmers - $7,500 for "Restoring Natural Flow: Culvert Installation Project". This grant will fund construction of culverts under an existing levee/roadway to enhance spring high water run-off into the Still River/Nashua River.
